An energy price cap is ‘unrealistic, a long way off and won’t work’ – reports

One of the manifesto pledges being made in the run-up to June’s General Election is the idea of an energy price cap, which it is claimed would knock £100 of the average domestic utility bill.

However, industry analysts are claiming that the chances of implementing a price cap quickly are very slim. In fact, it could take until 2019 before a cap takes effect, and even then, ironically, the cost to the industry could see overall energy prices increase.

The idea of an energy price cap was originally introduced by Labour for the last Election – it is now being put forward by the Conservative Party.

Regardless of who is suggesting it, the consensus from the energy industry is that it’s a lot more hassle than it’s worth, and that it will not benefit the end user in any meaningful way.
