Another report reveals energy overcharging
Yet more reports have emerged about the extortionate prices being paid by energy customers who are failing to switch to get the best deals.
A renewable energy company has suggested that families who stayed with the same provider for five years will have overpaid by an average of £853 each.
They have then applied a multiplier to calculate that this adds up to a total overcharge of £7.3bn.
Whether that’s accurate or not, that energy companies are overcharging is a well-told story now. But it’s worth re-telling until every household and every business start taking action to avoid paying the top rate. Simply put, a business that stays with the same supplier, and ends up on their standard variable tariff, will be paying more for its energy than it should.
The suppliers will profit from customers’ loyalty and complacency. They are obliged to let you know what the cheapest tariff is, but you must ask. And even then, you could be missing out on better deals from other suppliers.
We’ve said it before, and we’re sure we will again: the best way to get the best rates is to speak to a broker, such as NGP, which has the experience, the influence and the buying power to reduce the amount you’re paying for your energy.
